Cotton wick No. 3 is approximately suitable for candles 5-7 cm in diameter made from paraffin and low-melting waxes (soy wax, coconut wax, etc.).

When working with more refractory candle materials (beeswax, palm wax), we recommend choosing wicks 1-2 sizes larger.

Whether the wick is suitable for a candle is determined when it burns. Usually, if the wick is too thick, the candle flame will be large and smoky, but if it is too thin, then the wick will burn faster than the material of the candle, and it will “choke” and fade away.

Any additive to the candle mass (dye, aroma oil, shimmer) is an additional load on the wick. Therefore, if you have chosen a wick for a candle without aroma oil, then when adding it you need to check whether this affected the combustion. If the candle goes out, then you need to repeat the selection of the wick, paying attention to looser specimens.

The quality of combustion is also affected by the height of the wick above the wax level. The optimal height for cotton wicks is 5-7 mm.

When making container candles, cotton wicks are fixed to the bottom of the jar using metal holders.

Wooden clamps are useful to center the wick in the mold or container and provide tension.
