Decoupage candle

For decoupage candles we need the following materials: wax, wick, the form for candles, napkin, spoon, candle, 2 pots (one larger and one smaller) or pan + bank.

Step 1. Melt candle mass. Paraffin should melt in a water bath on low heat so that it does not overheat. Water should not boil. You can use a thermometer. The temperature of the wax should be about 75 degrees. To make pure paraffin candles, you can add 10-20% of stearin. Stearin candle gives the hardness to candle? it will not afraid of heat and deform ( this especially true for thin candles), as well as less "crying" when burning. If you use paraffin glassware, be careful about bursting. Place a towel under the bank, and place it in a pan until the water is still cold, so the bank is gradually heated.

Step 2. Prepare the form while paraffin melts. To plug the ready candle easily, the form must be lubricated with oil or You are to place it to freezer at about 20 minutes. Set the wick in the form. It is important to choose the right wick. If the candle flames and smokes too much, so the wick is too thick and did not have time to burn through, and if the candle "choking" in paraffin, gradually fades, so the wick is too thin.

Step 3. Add the dyes and fragrances. When the paraffin is almost melted, it's time to add the dye. If you use our dyes, it is enough only 2-3 grams per 1 kg of paraffin. In case of decoupage, the candle may not be colored. I will add in mine pastel - yellow color, it will give the candle creamy shade. Up on Your wish, you can make a candle scent for it in melted paraffin, add a few drops of essential oil or flavoring.

Step 4. Fill the candle mass in our form. Now you have to be patient and wait until the candle will harden. Do not hurry and do not cool it in a refrigerator, it can lead to the formation of cavities inside the candle. Wait pour candles at room temperature. If the wick around the crater, You can add paraffin or align the roughness on the hot surface. Another option: You can eliminate the funnel with hairdryer. This method is suitable for small and thick candles. Hot air softens the top layer of paraffin and smooth the surface. This should be done before you pull out a candle from the mold.

Step 5. We take the candle from the mold. If you do not greased mold before pouring paraffin with oil, then you may have a difficulty removing it from the mold. Put th candle for 20 minutes in the freezer and it will easily "jump" from the mold.

Step 6. Immediate decoupage. Decoupage can be total, the full coverage of candles, and can be fragment, for this cut the pattern of paper napkin. We need only the top layer of napkin, the other (white) layers should be separated. Apply the cloth to the spark, heat the spoon on a gas burner or a burning candle and using light (without clicking) slow movements, spend this hot spoon over a candle. The top layer of melted paraffin soaked cloth. Then you can decorate the candle according to Your desire: add beads, ribbons and decorations. I like to decorate my candles with special candle marker.

P.S. Do not forget about fire safety. Decoupage is suitable for thick candles only: the flame may spread to the tissue. Do not leave burning candles unattended!
